In algebraic geometry, a lemniscate is an infinity-shaped curve which derives from the Latin lemniscatus, meaning “decorated with ribbons,” which comes from the Greek λημνίσκος meaning “ribbons” or the wool from which the ribbons were made. (Yes, my formal education is in Classical Languages, not that I get a chance to use them very often!) It seems an appropriate name for this infinity scarf, even though the fiber is alpaca.

This pattern accompanies the Special Topics in Finishing article in this issue which discusses how to graft stitch patterns so that the pattern is maintained. Stitches are cast on using a provisional cast on and worked to the desired length. The stitches from the provisional cast on are grafted to the last row of stitches.

The first and last four stitches are worked in stockinette to provide a curled selvedge.
