Make a lemon coat!

Tools & Materials

4 mm (US G-6) crochet hook
Stitch markers
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Category 4 (medium weight) cotton yarn

My yarn choice:
YarnArt Eco-Cotton XL
(color: 764 yellow)

Material: 80% cotton 20% Polyester
Skein weight: 200 g / 7.04 oz
Skein length: 220 m / 240.59 yds
Category: 4 – medium weight
Recommended hook size: 5 mm / H-8
Gauge (10x10cm): 13 stitches x 20 rows

Amount used:
10 skeins
2000 g / 70.4 oz– yeah I know, it’s a heavy one!
2200 m / 2400.59 yds

The coat can be made with any cotton yarn for the same result that has similar features. Also the yarn I used is pretty heavy and stiff – I think it is perfect for a coat, but you can use any yarn of your preference if you’d like to make a soft cardigan or so – but kindly keep in mind that the measures might differ!

My gauge measurements:

  • with a 4 mm / G-6 hook
  • with even moss stitch

In cm: 10x10 cm = 14 stitches x 18 rows

In inch: 5x5 inch = 18 stitches x 22 rows

Sizes

The detailed instructions will refer to an S or EUR 36 size.

At the end of the instructions you will find tables for XS/S/M/L/XL sizes, that contains the stitch and row counts for every size.

If the length of a piece is not exactly your size or you just want to change it, you can always add/remove rows (I suggest adjusting by 2 rows at a time to keep the pattern) where there’s no increase/decrease in a given row

Note: the coat is not designed to be buttoned up, so do not expect the front to be completely closed

Stitches / techniques used

hdc Half double crochet
ch Chain
dc Double crochet
dec Decrease
inc Increase
slst dec slip stitch decrease
hdc dec half double crochet decrease

The whole coat is made up with the Even Moss stitch, which is basically alternating slip stitch and half double crochet.
