If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change… just like a Chameleon

This pattern for my African Flower Chameleon is my 10th pattern. I have tried really hard to make it visually easy to follow, as well as written instructions. (Although I am a big visual fan, so my photos may say more.)

I would greatly appreciate it if you respected my pattern(s). It’s insane how much time, effort and hair pulling goes into each new creation and pattern.

I have tried really hard to correct all the error (grammar and instructional) as possible… but I’m not perfect and mostly likely missed a few, please be kind and let me know if you find any :)

I cannot tell you the exact amount of yarn to use. It is a great way to use up all your leftover yarn. I prefer to use 2.5mm hook and fingering/sock/sport/sometimes DK weight yarn.

Some important things to know when making your Chameleon…

1.First read the whole pattern through and have a good understanding of how your Chameleon is assembled.
2.It’s best if you know how to make the African flower motifs. I have tried really hard to describe the process in making them.
3.I use the “join as you go” method as described in Heidi Bears Designs. If you don’t know it or are not comfortable with that method, then I suggest sewing it together.

Material needed:

The Chameleon that has been crocheted for this pattern was made using sock weight/DK.

Using this weight yarn will give you a Chameleon approximately 19cm tall, 53cm long, 25cm wide.

Crochet Hook 2.5mm

I like my stitches TIGHT. So adjust your hook to the weight of your yarn and to your skill level.

Polyester toy stuffing

Scissors, blunt end Needle used for sewing in ends and sewing fins on

Eyes (8mm plastic safety eyes or wire-looped eye buttons are my preferred).

NOTE BUTTON OR EYES CAN BE A SAFETY HAZARD FOR SMALL CHILDREN! If this toy is for a child, perhaps crochet eyes and sew them on. Still create eye sockets before embroidering the eyes on…this adds character to your creation.

Basic Crocheting Skills: Chain stitch (ch) , Single Crochet (sc), Double Crochet (dc), Half double crochet(Hdc) Slip Stitch (sl st), joining a chain to make a ring, joining in a new color yarn. Magic Ring (MR)
