Leonel The Lion is a beautiful hand knitted lion. He is full of personality with his big mane and fluffy tail. He is a teddy to treasure for young and old alike. Leonel The Lion is 24cm or 9.5 inches tall when sitting, and 33cm or 13 inches tall when standing.

Leonel is completely jointed with teddy bear cotter pin joints - his head, arms, and legs are moveable. There is a tutorial provided if you decide to use these joints, but they are optional. There are also instructions on how to sew the lion together as usual without joints. It’s up to you!

Materials needed to make Leonel The Lion: 3.5mm or US 4 straight knitting needles, 150g or 5.28oz (225 meters or 246 yards) of Schachenmayr Sadira Special Edition in colour 00080 (1 ball) - this yarn works up similarly to double knit or light worsted yarn, 20g or 0.7 oz (32 meters or 35 yards) of Elle Family Knit Classic Chunky Yarn in colour White (001) - this yarn is for the mane and tail hair, stuffing, black embroidery thread, 12mm dark brown safety eyes, a small piece of white coloured felt, 1 set of 25mm joints - fibreboard discs and cotter pins - and a pair of long nose pliers (optional.)

Knitting methods used: Cast on using the thumb method, knit, purl, M1R - Make 1 Right - Make 1 stitch by picking up the bar in between two stitches from back to front and knitting into the front of it, M1L - Make 1 Left - Make 1 stitch by picking up the bar in between two stitches from front to back and knitting into the back of it, K2tog - Knit 2 stitches together as 1, P2tog - Purl 2 stitches together as 1, cast off, sew the pieces together using mattress stitch.

Yarn Substitutions
It is often difficult to get the exact same yarn as stated in a pattern. You can substitute any listed yarn with another yarn of the same weight to achieve a similar look and size. You can make a bigger version by using thicker yarn and bigger needles, or a smaller version by using thinner yarn and smaller needles.
