Inspired by the hats that the crew wears in Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Let Me Tell You About My Boat is knit from the top down, giving you complete control over the length, so you can knit it short enough to fold the brim at the top of your ears. After a good blocking it sits nicely on the crown of your head without falling off, and it can be folded down if the weather turns while you’re out at sea, searching for the jaguar shark that ate your best friend…

It’s designed to be knit on DPN’s but can easily be adapted to magic loop if that’s your preferred in-the-round method. It takes around 50g of sport weight yarn for the smallest 18” size, about 60g for the 20”, and 70g for the 22”. Stitch gauge is 7 stitches per inch in 1x1 rib when the fabric is gently stretched, and row gauge doesn’t matter as it is a custom-fit hat.
