2 skeins will get you 2 projects with this pattern – one hat and one cowl, two hats, or two cowls! And as an added bonus, you will likely have leftovers for some fingerless mitts. The hat and cowl are written patterns and the bonus mitts are written as more of a recipe how-to. Notes for how to customize and make any of the projects even more to your liking are given as well as yarn quantities used in grams if you are looking to stash dive. After knitting all 3 projects, I had around 30g of color A and 5g of color B left, plenty to make your hat slouchier or the cowl longer.

Materials:

  • 2 skeins of Malabrigo Arroyo (100% superwash merino, 335yds/100g, dk weight): 1 skein semi solid (252 Wabi Sabi shown as Color A) and 1 skein speckled (166 Brujula shown as Color B). I have not tested a variegated – these may pool and might not give you a pleasing result. You could also choose another semi solid instead of speckled.
  • Needles for Hat: US3 circular needle in 16-inch length or suitable length for magic loop, and US5 circular needle in 16-inch length and US5 dpns, or suitable length for magic loop
  • 10 stitch markers, 1 of a different color or style to mark beginning of round for hat, only 1 stitch marker is needed for cowl to mark beginning of round
  • Needle for Cowl: US5 circular needle in 24-inch length
  • Needle for Bonus Fingerless Mitts: US5 dpns or circulars in a suitable length for magic loop
  • Tapestry needle and scissors for weaving in ends

Gauge:
6 stitches per inch. 24 sts x 36 rows in a 4x4 square worked in textured body of hat pattern. Hat is 8.25 inches tall (easily customizable) and fits a 20-24” head circumference. Cowl is 10.5 inches tall and 25 inches in circumference. Bonus mitts are made to fit a small adult hand, but are also very easy to customize. Pattern is a multiple of 5.
