This interlocking crochet square was inspired by a powerful and historic moment. On April 1, 2025, Senator Cory Booker delivered a 25-hour speech on the Senate floor — surpassing the record previously held by Strom Thurmond, a segregationist who once used that same chamber to filibuster the Civil Rights Act.

The weight of a Black man breaking that record — one set in opposition to civil rights — is profound. Cory Booker stood where a segregationist once stood, but instead of speaking to obstruct justice, he used his voice to demand it. He spoke for those most impacted by political violence, for the institutions under threat, and for the democratic ideals that still feel out of reach for many. His speech was an act of defiance, a remembrance of hard truths, and a call to move forward with eyes wide open.

Booker used his time to speak out against authoritarianism, to defend democracy, and to uplift those most impacted by political cruelty. He ended his speech with the words, “Let’s get in good trouble,” invoking the legacy of John Lewis. That line — and everything that led up to it — inspired this design.

This square is not a blanket endorsement. It is created to document moments of significance, to hold space for nuance, and to remain rooted in the ongoing pursuit of justice. We can honor acts of courage while still holding leaders accountable. This piece exists in that space — where resistance, remembrance, and critical reflection meet.

Gauge is not important. This square is the same size as my other interlocking crochet designs and can be used in larger protest or memory projects, or as a standalone piece.
