In Season 1 of Downton Abbey, Lady Sybil wears a traveling hat while motoring to and from Ripon for some political adventures. (Later, Branson, the chauffeur, becomes her husband in dramatic fashion.) The functional and fine hat with plaincolored crown reveals a brim with an underside of multicolored brocade. I chose a cloche style with a palette of rich yet subtle colors to frame the face. Making use of stockinette stitch’s inclination to roll to reveal the purl side and a random series of vertical intarsia stripes in a toasty wool/mohair worsted-weight yarn make this a quick and fun project that is warm and stylish.
