As my part of the world is beginning to loosen its CoVID restrictions, there’s a lot to celebrate right now. Plus, my favorite Local Yarn Shop, Rumpelstiltskin, is celebrating its 5th year under owner Ciara Crain’s leadership and vision. In honor of Rumpelstiltskin’s 5-year anniversary, I’ve designed LET’S SHAWL-A-BRATE! This shawl uses 3 different colors of fingering weight yarn, contains enough repetition for you to relax into, and enough detail to keep it interesting. The top portion is stockinette stitch with eyelet  polka-dots sprinkled about, and the border is a colorful celebration of various eyelet repeats, stripes and more.The shape of this shawl is a lovely, wearable, elongated triangle, with a gently curving upper edge that hugs your neck beautifully. It can be worn as a cozy wrap or draped lightly over your shoulders. Why not have fun with it? It’s time to Shawl-a-brate!

Rumpelstiltskin weathered the pandemic with grace, while offering customers personalized, virtual shopping, curbside pickup, shipping, kits, and a sense of solace and hope during a very difficult time. They also built an an impressive online store, and will continue to be a great resource to knitters near and far. In fact, Rumpelstiltskin is now more than just a Local Yarn Store. It has blossomed into a Destination Yarn Store, and customers can once again take advantage of all the wonderfully curated yarns and accessories Ciara has brought into the shop, including some amazing yarns that would be great for Let’s Shawl-a-brate! MATERIALS:

4 skeins fingering weight yarn, approximately 100 grams per skein and 400 yards each. (Two skeins of main color and one skein each of two different colors for the contrasting trim)
24” to 32” circular needles between a size 2 and 4 - whatever will produce a nice, not too stiff, not too loose, kind of drape-y shawl like fabric. You know what I mean.

The examples were knitted with:

Emma’s Yarn SUPER SILKY (80% SW Merino, 20% silk, 400 yards) - 2 skeins (800 yards) in color A - Cherry Merlot (wine), one skein (250 yards) in color B - Just Add Salt (bright lime green) and one skein (200 yards) in color C -Sweet Magnolia (soft, light pink)

Sea Change Fibers by the Dye Project BEAUMONT FINGERING (70% Merino, 15% Alpaca, 15% Silk - 2 skeins in color A - Moonshine (soft, light blue), one skein in color B - Simone (teal/dark green) and one skein in color C - Willow (gold/chartreuse)

APPROXIMATE GAUGE: Exact gauge isn’t that important - it’s a shawl, after all. That said, in general your gauge will be between 18-24 stitches and 24-30 rows in garter stitch to 4”/10 cm. after blocking.

APPROXIMATE FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: between 84-98” along neck edge, and between 30-38” depth at center point.
