The Vestland region in Norway is blessed with a chilly and wet climate which is perfect for warm and durable wool socks - feet go in and out of wellingtons or heavy boots, for fishing trips or hikes in the mountains, for staying outside watching sports, for keeping feet cozy and warm.

Vestland Socks is a relatively uncomplicated sock project, the easy colourwork on the legs provides extra warmth around the ankles and adds some personality and a retro vibe which I like.

For the sample pairs I’ve used sporting weight yarn, 1,5-2 skeins of main colour, and less than half a skein of contrast colour. Fingering weight yarn will also work fine, giving a slightly smaller circumference and size of the sock.
