This mitten was inspired by the hot weather of summertime and the vegetable bounty of backyard gardens

This fingerless mitten features two picot hems to symbolize dainty lettuce buds and a central lace pattern that resembles the ruffles of a lettuce leaf. A thumb gusset is included as a nod towards the green thumb of both knitter and gardener and their ability to coax growth from fiber and/or plant. The yarn used is a bamboo/acrylic mix to provide lightness and wash-ability for summer activities.

  • Mitten is knit from the cuff upwards.
  • Appropriate needles and yarn should be used to achieve a gauge of 6 stitches to 1 inch. These needles/yarn do not necessarily have to be those listed.
  • This glove incorporates negative ease due to the stretchiness of the lace pattern, sizes listed are measured from the widest circumference of the hand (over the knuckles).

Pattern contains spot-color photographs of mitten, charted and written lace pattern, and photographic tutorials of Picot CO, Picot BO, and increases for thumb gusset.
