Leylandii mitts and cowl
What to do with a small quantity of a luxury yarn? How about a soft mitts and cowl set to keep you warm or as a treat for a friend? This set was designed to use as much as possible of two balls of Valley yarns Bromley, a cashmere/mohair blend, but any DK weight yarn can be used. The set can be completed using less than 200 yards of yarn. If you wish to make just the mitts or the cowl, use 100 yards for each.
The mitts are sized to fit an average woman’s hand (7-7½” palm circumference) when knitted to pattern tension of 20 sts and 36 rows to 4”/10cm of stocking stitch after blocking.
The one-size cowl measures 18”/46cm around and 4½”/11.5cm high after blocking when worked to pattern tension of 22 sts and 36 rows to 4”/10cm of Leylandii cowl lace pattern.
The mitt pattern uses a textured stitch pattern; the cowl pattern uses a lace stitch pattern. Both the stitch patterns are given with both charted and written instructions.
You will need:
2 balls of Valley Yarns Bromley - 200 yards (180m) DK weight yarn (or 100 yards (90m) if you are only making one half of the set)
3.75mm (US 5) needles for knitting in the round
Stitch marker
Stitch holder or waste yarn
Darning needle
You need to be able to: work in the round, work simple texture and/or simple lace patterns using either charted or written instructions.
