Background
We have been admiring Marie Wallin quintessential feminine knitwear featuring rich floral intarsias and stranded knitting for quite some time and when we had the opportunity to meet and talk at the Edinburgh Yarn Festival, we fell in love with her gentle nature and discovered a kindred spirit. Marie, like us, is a great admirer of Tibetan culture. We talked about a project we had in mind to revive ancient textile traditions. From fiber collection, spinning, natural dying and weaving. It was a little dream of ours to be able to support a little community of nomadic women in a very poor and semi desertic area of the Tibetan Plateau from where young people leave to look for better life conditions.
Soon after our chat, Marie wrote to us saying that whilst she never designs for anybody else but her own brand now (after years of been the Head Designer at Rowan), she wanted to gift us a design inspired by our story that we could use to support our little project. This is how Lhasa was born and we are so thankful for Marie’s generosity and hope you will love it as much as we do.
This pattern is only sold as part of the Lhasa kit from our website1.
All proceeds from the sale of this kit will be set aside for this specific project which we hope to be able to start as soon as we have enough funding for it.
