My goal with this little bit of lace was to use one skein of yarn, making this a very affordable knit. My stitch patterns are based on two Estonian Lace Stitches, a version of Liblikakiri (butterfly) and a half-drop leaf stitch. Neither one is quite the same as the original, but both are instantly recognizable.

This shawl is knit from the top down, employs nupps on the wrong side, and is easily adjustable. The first and second charts contain the same number of stitches in the repeat, allowing the knitter to increase or decrease the size of the shawl as the yarn allows.

This pattern is meant for a more experienced mid-level knitter as the chart involves nupps and patterning on both sides. Two different methods for working nupps are included.

Yarn: 1 Skein Malabrigo Lace Yarn, 470 yards per skein, 50 grams, 100% Merino Wool, color Pagoda Red (short), 1 Skein Teresa Ruch Designs, Tencel, 520 yards, 100% Tencel (long and pictured)

Needle: US 4 (3.5 mm) circulars or needles to obtain gauge

Gauge: 6.5 5.5 stitches per inch (spi) and 8 8 rows per inch (rpi) OR 26 22 stitches & 32 32 rows to 4 inches/10 cm in stockinette

Size: 54 inches from tip to tip, 25 inches from neck edge to point (short)

To alter the size: Add or subtract repeats of the chart OR adjust your gauge to increase or decrease the length of the scarf as needed.
