The Lice Lice Baby socks feature the luse (lice) pattern from Norwegian lusekofter and can be worked either cuff-down or toe-up. The pattern also lets you choose between a short-row heel or a heel-flap and gusset as well.

The sizes range from 1 year to adult XL, with a table for adjusting foot length so you can adapt the sock fit to the recipient. The socks are quick to make as they are made for DK weight yarn, or fingering-weight yarn held double.

Sandnes Perfect (85% superwash wool, 15% Nylon, 100 / 109 yds, 50 g).

Main colour: (40, 50, 60, 70) (70, 90, 105, 120) m / (45, 50, 65, 75) (90, 100, 115, 130) yds.
Contrast colour: (30, 55, 95, 105) (130, 140, 155, 185) m / (30, 60, 100, 115) (140, 155, 170, 200) yds.

Or hold fingering weight wool-nylon yarn double, as an average sock yarn of 200 m / 218 yds per 50 grams becomes 100 m / 109 yds per 50 grams when held double.

Needles
Gauge-size and below gauge-size needles to work short circumference in the round.

The sample was made using 4 mm (US 6) for stockinette and 3.5 mm (US 4) for the cuff.

Gauge
22 sts x 30 rnds = 10 cm / 4” in stockinette.

Sizes
(1, 2-3, 4-9, 10-13) (S, M, L, XL) in years and adult sizes, respectively.

The smaller samples are size 2-3, and the larger sample is size M. Worn with zero ease around the widest part of the foot.

Construction
These socks can be worked cuff-down or toe-up. You can also choose between a short-row heel or heel-flap and gusset. The lengths of the leg and foot are easily adjustable.

Normally I stress the importance of going up in needle size to get gauge in colourwork. But this would be terribly annoying to do on every 4th round. Instead, I suggest you tension the contrast yarn a lot more loosely, to make sure the strands aren’t too tight around the foot.
