When I was working on this shawl, I posted a photo of it on Instagram; among the comments I got were “delicious” and “yummy”. Licorice Whip jumped into my mind, and here we are.

The curved, asymmetrical bias shawl is a wonderful shape. Knitting on the bias gives the shawl a beautiful drape, and the proportion of the wingspan and the center back gives you a nice amount to wrap around your neck without having too much bulk in the rest of the shawl.

Garter stitch stripes and solid garter stitch make up most of the shawl, and there’s a little slip stitch work at the end.

The size is easily adjusted by working more or less of the solid garter stitch section, or you can also work a larger or smaller section of stripes or slip stitch.

This is a generous shawl, so you will need 470 yards of fingering weight yarn in Color A and 275 yards of fingering weight yarn in Color B. The shawl in the photos was worked in Sale Winter Fingering in Black Grey (Color A) and Liverpool Fingering in Gossamer (Color B).

A US size 4 (3.5mm) 32” circular needle was used to get the gauge in the pattern. Exact gauge is not crucial, but be aware that a change in gauge can affect the amount of yarn used and the size of the finished shawl.
