This is a tree skirt for a tabletop tree that I hang special ornaments on. My center-start items (blankets, etc.) frequently ruffle because my crochet stitches are wide relative to their height. This tree skirt does not ruffle! (It increases by one stitch per point every other row, which helps a lot.)

The skirt is 24” (61 cm) across, and the hole is 2” (5 cm). Gauge is not important.

When I begin a pattern, I work slowly, and my stitches are loose. Later in the pattern I speed up and my stitches get tighter. This also contributes to ruffling; keep your stitches the same size throughout!
