As soon as I had designed the Life’s Better at the Campsite mittens I knew I wanted to have a matching beanie. I opted to use the same weight of yarn for the beanie as I did for the mittens, thinking of those cooler Fall and Spring nights that we camp or sit around the fire pit drinking hot chocolate. This motif reminds me of when I was little and I’d go camping with my family. Such great memories!

I designed this pattern for 3 sizes; child’s, adult s/m, and adult lge.
Finished sizes unstretched, after blocking:
Child: approx circumference, 16 inches/41cm; approx height 7 3/4”/ 19.5cm from crown to edge
Adult s/m: approx circumference, inches/46 cm; approx height 18 8 3/4”/22cm from crown to edge
Adult lge: approx circumference, 20 inches/51 cm; approx height 8 3/4”/22cm from crown to edge

I chose a semi solid as my main colour and a variegated for the contrast. I chose Hewetopia Fiber Art Black and Forest for one test, and Ancient Arts Yarn RCY Hat Trick semi solid in Barn Burner (main) and Ancient Arts Yarn Socknado in Adventure (contrast) for the other.
There are many long floats in the colourwork. This was necessary to get the detail. I catch every 3-4 stitches, never catch on the same stitch the next round, and keep my stitches spread out after being knit to my right needle to avoid puckering.
