The top-down theme is a boon to indecisive hat makers (knit for a while, see that the yarn tells you!) Top down is also wonderful for handspun, you can stop the hat when you run out of yarn.

This guide will help you figure out how to make a:

• beret

• pillbox

Depending on the yarn you use, most hats take 100-250 yards.
