Light in the Pacific Ocean
This is a fundraising pattern for my late brother, Mino (1971-2004). The release date, July 8, 2013, is his 42nd birthday
“Light in the Pacific Ocean” is a lengthwise and diagonal scarf with textured stitches and eyelets. “Light” is off-centered as always seen in my designs. As the shape is a parallelogram, the slanted edges of the scarf float like seaweed in the water.
A collection of simple stitches results in this dramatic textured scarf. It is a perfect project for beginners; one step up from knit and purl, as well as a relaxed knit for the experienced knitter. You may choose two colors, a single color or highly variegated yarns.
Skill required: K, P, YO, K2tog, Kfb (Knit front and back), Skp (Slip 1 K1, psso), Purled cast-on (YouTube and photo instruction are included in the pattern)
Required yardage: 400-500 yrds, Customizable (The pattern includes the instruction how to determine the size and make adjustments. Sample: (MC) 420yrds/384m, (CC) 35yrds/39m
Finished Size after blocking: 86” (218cm) x 7” (18cm)
Please refer to the test knitters’ projects for the yardage and finished sizes.

The pattern has the “final note from Yuki” explaining my fundraising update in English. I added the Japanese translation for this pattern.

All the proceeds of this pattern will be donated to the Minoru Hokari Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Australian National University. My late brother, Minoru Hokari (“Mino” 1971-2004) died of cancer at the age of 32. The scholarship fund supports young scholars who study Indigenous Australians through fieldwork. We are trying to fully fund it to achieve its perpetuity. Please help.
Please visit Being Connected with HOKARI MINORU (www.hokariminoru.org) to meet Mino.
