Light Into Dark Waters
“Author of language and light,
help us to use words as You have,
to cast light into dark waters
and draw out justice and truth.”
The prayer above can be found in the Mishkan T’filah, the prayer book for Reform Judaism in North America.
This movement of Judaism, to which I belong, believes in social justice – being and doing good in this world.
The prototype for this hat was designed for a lovely Syrian boy I had the privilege of helping welcome to Canada, as a volunteer with a group of Christians and Jews working to help resettle Muslim families who were fleeing violence.
The friendships made with those families are cherished connections, and reminders that as long as one seeks to do good, all faiths and cultures and nationalities can flourish together.
The pattern is free of charge, and will remain so. All I ask is that you please consider making a donation to any worthy cause you support; I’m personally a fan of Carry the Future, a grassroots movement helping refugees and asylum seekers.
If you can’t donate, volunteer your time. And if you can’t volunteer, just…go do something nice for someone. Smile at them. Compliment their outfit. Increase the total goodness in this world by any amount you can.
