These mitts were born out of two wishes. First, to honor each and every people who participated in creating a local, Norman and authentic wool. Hence, my creating a “maritime” pattern. The Chausey color made me want to include foam in the waves, as well as a lighthouse.
The second wish revolves around crafting. Most gloves and mitts are knitted with a thumb gus-set. The thumb is then treated as an appendix for the hand. I wondered what would happen if the hand became an appendix for the thumb.
I hope that you will draw as much pleasure as I had from knitting them.

The mitts are knitted in the round from the cuff to the fingers. After the corrugated ribbing, some increases are gradually made in stockinette for the hand. At the same time a white cable is knitted to be the lighthouse. The stitches for the thumb are then kept on waste yarn, while finis-hing the hand. To finish with, the thumb is knitted.

You will need 2 skeins, one for each chosen color.

Ces mitaines sont nées de deux envies. Utilisant une laine locale, authentique, normande, je souhaitais rendre hommage aux personnes présentes à chaque étape de son élaboration, en créant un motif “maritime”. La couleur Chausey m’a donné envie d’écume dans les vagues et d’un phare.
La deuxième envie relève de la construction. La plupart des gants et mitaines sont construites en créant un “gousset” pour le pouce. Celui-ci est alors un appendice de la main. Je me suis demandée ce qu’il adviendrait si c’était la main qui était un appendice du pouce.

Les mitaines sont tricotées en rond du poignet vers les doigts. Après des côtes bicolores, on conserve une partie des mailles en côte et on augmente progressivement la partie en jersey pour la main. Parallèlement le phare est tricoté avec une torsade blanche en jacquard. Les mailles du pouce sont ensuite réservées sur un bout de laine. On termine alors la main, puis on reprend les mailles pour finir par le pouce.
