Lightning Crashes! Overlay Mosaic Square
I came up with this design April 2022 with the intention of calling it April Showers, however our California weather changes so fast to summer that the design had to wait. Then the BOMB CYCLONE of 2023 hit our west coast so this felt like the right time to whip this up!
This pattern is for an overlay mosaic crochet square that can be used in other types of projects, such as blankets, pillows, satchel bags, table mats, etc.
This PDF includes full written instructions and a chart, and links to helpful general technique videos.
Any yarn or hook will work, depending on the desired size of the finished square. I used yarn weight of 4 with a 5.5 hook, which creates a square of 13.5” x 13”.
You will need 3 colors of yarn to create the sample image - one for the background, another for the cloud & a 3rd for the lightning bolt.
This is a great way to use up scraps! For projects using all 3 colors, you will need approximately 2 oz of the background color, 1-1.5 oz of the cloud color and .5-1 oz of the yellow color, when using a worsted or aran (wt 4) type of yarn.
Pattern is in US crochet terms.
