The style of this cowl is quite close fitting and lightweight. It’s not intended for very cold conditions but perfect for transitioning Autumn into Winter or Spring into Summer. Wear it on chillier Summer evenings when attending outdoor events.

It’s an accessory to accent your outfit so choose a pop of colour, contrast or match your shoes/handbag etc.

It’s crocheted in the round and the lace stitch is easily memorised so perfect for doing in front of the television, when chatting to friends or listening to music.

Six sizes are catered for going from children aged 3 and above, through teenagers and three adult sizes. The size is based on the circumference of your head (19-25 in/48-63.5cm).

The cowl is crocheted typically on a 3.25mm (D3) hook using 4-ply / Fingering weight yarn, sock yarn is ideal.

The yellow item photographed was made with Scheepjes Whirlette in Banana (Med Adult size with five pattern repeats); the multi-coloured cowl (Med Adult, four pattern repeats) was made with Schoppel Wolle Crazy Zauberball in Papagei using between 60g and 70g of yarn.

50-100g (225-455m) Fingering or 4 ply yarn
Flexible tape to measure your head
Darning needle
Scissors

Prior knowledge of ch, dc, dtr, and dtr2tog (UK terms) ch, sc, tr, tr2tog (US terms) is assumed.

It is not necessary to know how to read charts, each row is written out in English using standard crochet abbreviations/notation. However, a chart is also included for those who prefer them.

The pattern has been tested and should be error free.

I am classing this as a beginner’s pattern, so long as you are familiar with the stitch types listed above, you should be able to make this cowl. The accompanying tutorial photographs are very detailed.
