Many round yoke sweaters are worked in DK or heavier weight yarns. For a long time I have wanted to make a traditional round yoke sweater to be worn in summer:) It was not very far away to include summer flowers into the design! Choose your own colors for an amazing sweater:)
Design
“Like a flower” features a deep, rounded yoke and broad cuffs in a summery and sweet flower pattern. 2 contrasting colors are used for the patterning, but you could use 1 single contrasting color only (or several, or maybe even a tone-on-tone color).
The main body and sleeves are worked in stockinette sts. All ribbed details (hems/cuffs/neckline) are worked in twisted rib)
Construction
The sweater is worked in the round from RS and top down. It is completely seamless.
You start working the yoke top down from a provisional cast on (or a traditional cast on if you prefer). After the patterning of the yoke you continue the upper body with regular increases. When the upper body is completed work is divided for lower body and sleeves to be worked in separate pieces. You can work the lower body straight or with waist-shaping. Finally you return to the provisional cast on for shaping a rounded neckline (the back is higher than the front).
Sizes
Finished bust measurements are: 33/36.5/39.5/42.5/45/48”.
Materials
Yarn: I used Madeline Tosh Merion Light to work the sweater.
You need 3/4/4/4/5/5 skeins of MC (Calligraphy), 1 skein of each of the 2 contrasting colors (Flash Dance and Penumbra).
You can use any fingering weight that knits up to gauge.
Needles: Needle size is a suggestion only. You need to work a swatch to determine gauge.
You will need a circular needle 2.5mm/US1.5, 60cm/24”, to work the collar and the upper part of the yoke. When you have too many sts on the needle you change to a circular needle 2.5mm/US1.5, 80cm/32”, which is used for the lower part of the yoke and the lower body. - a set of 5 dpns 2.5mm/US1.5 (or a circular needle if you work the magic loop) to work the sleeves.
Notions: removable stitch-markers, separate holders, crochet hook.
Gauge
30 sts and 36-38 rowunds in stockinette sts = 10x10cm/4x4”
The pattern
The pattern is easy to follow and guides you from the cast on until finished results. The provisional cast on and the stranded knitting are explained. There is a short guide to possible modifications.
The pattern for the yoke and sleeves are fully charted.
The chart for the yoke indicates stitch-counts for every increase round.
All measurements are given in cm’s as well as in inches.
All necessary stitch-counts are given.
Knitting skills
Provisional cast on (optional). Following charts for stranded knitting. Increases/decreases.
