This scarf, part of the set by the same name, features an antique Tunisian crochet stitch named tricot écossais, which I renewed a bit by using two different colors. It’s a pretty lively stitch, and the combination of two watery colors made me think of the Sea and its waves. The name of the set comes from a poem by Irish poet W. B. Yeats, The Fiddler of Dooney, which starts with the following verses: When I play my fiddle in Dooney, / Folk dance like a wave of the sea.

The scarf is 180 cm long x 13 cm wide after blocking.

The scarf’s difficulty is rated intermediate: to make the scarf you have to know basic lace techniques and colors changes.

If you want to make the whole set, I suggest starting with the scarf to master the stitch and the two colors technique, as the scarf is worked straight. Once you’re finished with the scarf, you’ll be ready to make the headband, which is worked in the round and therefore might be a bit more difficult.

I’d like to thank a marvelous crochet designer you probably know, Sharon H. Silverman. While my set was being tested, I found out that she had used this very same stitch both for a scarf, Grecian Ladders, and a headband, Sunny Bow, as well! We talked about it, and agreed that these items are different enough to make mine distinct from hers. Check them all to discover how versatile this stitch is! Questa sciarpa, parte del set omonimo, presenta un antico punto del tunisino, chiamato tricot écossais, che io ho rinnovato un po’ tramite l’utilizzo di due colori differenti. Il punto è piuttosto vivace, e la combinazione di colori nelle tonalità dell’acqua mi ha fatto pensare al mare ed alle sue onde. Il nome del set deriva da una poesia del poeta irlandese W. B. Yeats, The Fiddler of Dooney (Il violinista di Dooney), che inizia con i versi Quando suono il mio violino a Dooney, / la gente balla come un’onda del mare.

La sciarpa misura 180 cm di lunghezza x 13 di ampiezza dopo la messa in forma.

La difficoltà della sciarpa è valutata intermediate: per realizzarla è necessario conoscere le basi della lavorazione a pizzo e i cambi di colore.

Vorrei ringraziare una meravigliosa designer di uncinetto che probabilmente conoscete, Sharon H. Silverman. Mentre il mio set era in fase di test ho scoperto che Sharon aveva usato lo stesso punto proprio per una sciarpa, Grecian Ladders, ed una fascia, Sunny Bow! Ne abbiamo parlato, e abbiamo concordato che questi accessori sono abbastanza differenti tra di loro da rendere i miei ben distinti dai suoi. Provateli tutti per scoprire quanto è versatile questo punto! E non scordatevi di dare una bella occhiata ai suoi lavori, oltre ai due qui citati: è fantastica, ed è anche una persona molto gentile.

Per realizzare l’intero set consiglio di iniziare dalla sciarpa per prendere confidenza con il punto e con la lavorazione a due colori, dato che è lavorata in piano. Una volta terminata, si sarà perfettamente in grado di passare alla fascia, che invece è lavorata in tondo e può risultare un po’ più difficile.
