Lila: A Combination Knit & Crochet Baby Blanket
This blanket’s pattern is a combination of knit AND crochet, and consists of alternating panels of broomstick lace (crochet) and garter stitch (knit), so you need to be able to do both techniques.
You’ll start with crochet, do a panel of broomstick, then switch to knitting needles to do a panel of garter stitch. You’ll repeat alternating panels until the blanket is as long as you’d like, ending on a broomstick lace panel. I have included very detailed instructions in the pattern, a few photos, and a quick video clip to demonstrate how to transfer stitches from the broomstick (crochet) to knitting needles.
Note
This pattern isn’t going to go into great detail on how to do broomstick lace crochet. However, the tutorial resources I used to learn (both video and written) are included in the pattern in case you are not familiar with the technique.
Gauge is not important. My finished blanket as written, unblocked, was 20” x 30”
As broomstick lace is done in multiples of 5 stitches, if you want to increase the width of the blanket, be sure to increase the stitch count in multiples of 5. You can adjust the length to whatever you like depending on how many repeats of the alternating panels you wish to do.
