A wonderfully delicate dress (instructions for a top version are also provided) evoking memories of childhood summers. Lovely, thoughtful design details and thorough instructions. The lace portion is both charted and fully written out, and is featured all over the upper back portion of the dress.

CONSTRUCTION:

This garment is knit seamlessly from the bottom up, featuring a picot hem and an easy lace pattern. The skirt is worked in the round to the underarms, a picot welt is worked, then the front and the back are worked flat. The left shoulder is formed using a three-needle-bind off, the right shoulder is fastened with buttons. Stitches are picked up at the neckline and armholes to create the edging.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Provisional cast on (optional), working a picot hem (explanations provided in pattern), working a picot welt (explanations provided in pattern) knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing, knitting in the round, yarn over, working a simple lace pattern (both a chart and written instructions are provided), picking up stitches, binding off.

SIZES:

• 3mo (6mo, 12mo, 18mo // 2yo, 4yo, 6yo, 8yo, 10yo)

• To fit chest sizes 16 (17, 18, 19 // 21, 23, 25, 26.5, 28) inches or 40.5 (43, 45.5, 48.5, // 53.5, 58.5, 63.5, 67.5, 71) cm.

• Garment chest at underarms: 16.5 (17.75, 19, 20.25// 21.75, 24.25, 26.75, 28, 29.25) inches or 42 (45, 48.5, 51.5 // 55, 61.5, 68, 71, 74.5) cm.

In general it’s best to go by the child’s actual chest measurement when selecting the appropriate size. The age labels are just general guidelines. You can also choose a size according to how much ease you’d like the garment to have.

YARN REQUIREMENTS:

• Top version: Approximately 325 (375, 400, 450 // 500, 600, 700, 800, 900) yds or 297 (343, 366, 411 // 457, 549, 640, 731, 823) meters of sport weight yarn.

• Dress version: Approximately 350 (400, 450, 500 // 550, 650, 800, 900, 1000) yds or 320 (366, 411, 457 // 503, 594, 731, 823, 914) meters of sport weight yarn.

NEEDLES:

• US 4 or 3.5 mm circular needle (or size needed to match stockinette stitch gauge). Length: 16-inch or 40 cm for sizes 3mo to 4yo, and 24-inch or 60 cm for sizes 6yo and up)
• US 2 1/2 or 3 mm circular needle (or two sizes smaller than needles used to match stockinette gauge) of the same length for hem.
• US 2 1/2 or 3 mm set of double-pointed needles for neckline and armhole edging.

NOTIONS:

• 2 (2, 2, 2 // 2, 3, 3, 3, 3) buttons ½-inch or 13 mm in diameter
• 4 stitch markers
• tapestry needle
• 3 pieces of scrap yarn or stitch holders

GAUGE:

24 sts x 32 rounds = 4 inches or 10 cm in stockinette stitch in the round after blocking using larger needles.
22 sts x 32 rounds = 4 inches or 10 cm in lace pattern in the round after blocking using larger needles
