This pretty scarf was inspired by the stitch pattern, which resembles the Lily of the Valley. Worked from the bottom up, it begins with a simple lace edging before moving on to the beaded lilies themselves. Garter stitch short rows curve the scarf into a gentle crescent. And Stephanie? My sister, for whom the original scarf was designed.

The finished scarf measures approximately 7½” (19cm) high at the centre and 64” (163cm) long after blocking when made to pattern tension of 8.5st and 18 rows to 2”/5cm measured over stocking stitch after blocking. Achieving exact pattern tension is not vital, but it may affect your scarf’s finished size and yardage requirement if you do not.

You will need: approximately 400 yds (365m) of fingering weight yarn 5mm (US 8) knitting needles (or two sizes larger than needle to achieve pattern tension, for casting on only)
4mm (US 6) knitting needles (or size needed to achieve pattern tension)
96 size 8/0 or 6/0 beads
9 stitch markers
0.5mm crochet hook (or other means of adding beads)
Cable needle (or ability to cable without one!)

You need to be able to: work from charts (the edging is both written and charted; the lily pattern is charted only), add beads using crochet hook method or similar means of adding beads without pre-stringing, work common increases/decreases/cables
