Lilja langsjal/ long shawl: líka á íslensku!
This is a version of the Old Shell pattern with a 3 row repeat. It can be said that this shawl has 2 right sides, they mirror each other: ideal for a long shawl.
The rows with holes are close to one another and become less clear as rows but give a very lacey effect.
The pattern includes a bit of information about the long history of the Old Shell pattern in Northern Europe.

A lace weight or fine fingering yarn will work. Big needles will make it look light and airy. ON the needles it is not very attractive - but wait until you have it blocked, it will come to life!

The pattern repeat is easily remembered and this is a great knitting meet or travel knit.

You can of course use several colours and design your version with stripes or even use a gradient yarn.
