Lilleline Hat
Happy New Year to you all!
enjoy -50%! off this pattern.
Lilleline Hat („Lilleline“ means floral in Estonian) is a simple and meditative knitting project that grows fast, flying off the needles in no time. I just love brioche knitting and this „must-have-wardrobe“ staple is comfortable, playful and so warm.
Once you get into the rhythm of it, brioche stitch is no more difficult than basic ribbing. You get to try out a new stitch pattern, and end up with a cute design. It’s a lovely, modern beanie, and is an interesting and pleasant knit that is sure to be a cold weather wardrobe staple. Perfect for your next snowy adventure, it is as enjoyable to knit as it is to wear.
CONSTRUCTION
Lilleline hat is worked in the round from the bottom up, starting with a few basic brioche rounds, continuing with the body part and ending with the crown. Two-color brioche is unique and the result is like two different hats - you can wear both sides. Two-color brioche stitch creates a gorgeous reversible fabric.
This beanie is an average adult size version (a little bit slouchy) - if you want a bigger or shorter size – do more or fewer sections, more rounds up (brioche plain rounds) or use larger needles. The pattern size matches the beige (Wheat, 61, Drops Alaska) and mustard (Goldenrod, 2923, Drops Nepal) beanie shown. The pattern is fully written and charted.
YARN:
MC Yarn: Drops Alaska (aran, 100% wool, 50gr / 1.76oz – 70m / 77yd), colorway Wheat, 61
CC Yarn – Drops Nepal (aran, 65% wool, 35% alpaca, 50gr / 1.76oz – 75m / 82yd), colorway Goldenrod, 2923 Or use any other Aran or DK weight yarn.
YARN CONSUMPTION: 60gr / 2.1oz of each color, MC and CC. My beanie weighs exactly 120 gr / 4.2oz (including pom pom).
NEEDLES: 40cm (16”) circular needle or DPNs (double pointed needles) in 3.50 mm (US 4) for beginning and 4.00mm ( US 6) for pattern.
SKILL LEVEL: This pattern is ideal for an adventurous beginner.
TECHNIQUES USED: Two-color brioche. Knitting and brioche stitch in the round, knitting, purling, brioche decreases/increases (brLsl dec, brRsl dec, br4sts dec, brk1, brp1, sl1yo).
FINISHED SIZE: average women’s size (beanie in the picture):
Depth – 26.5 cm (10.5“)
Circ – 44 cm (17.5“) Fits head approx. 57cm (22.5“)
Measurements taken unblocked. Hats shown have a 57cm / 22.5” head circumference.
OTHER TOOLS: Tapestry needle; scissors; round counter (if needed); stitch marker (if needed) for marking the beginning of the round.
GAUGE: 18 sts x 21 rows = 10cm (4“) in two-color brioche stitch (using 4.00 mm (US 6 ) needles).
Needle sizes are recommendations only. Always use needle size necessary to achieve given gauge (to save your time).
My personal knitting tension is tight. If yours isn’t, consider using perhaps 3.00mm (US 2) for ribbing and 3.50mm (US 4 ) needles for body
And thank you again my dear test knitters. Without you, my testing guys, this pattern isn’t here ….
