This comprehensive photo tutorial pattern (10 pages, 62 photos, 11.69MB) will show you how to make the realistic petals & stamens and assemble them onto a floral wire stem. The finished lily is approximately 3” across. You will need a PDF reader such as Adobe Reader or PDF-XChange to view the files. There is not a text-only version of this pattern.

Materials:
Size 10 Crochet Thread, DMC Cebelia is recommended.
1.75mm hook
smallest needle you can fit the thread into

Recommended materials:
Floral stem wire
Floral tape
smaller hook or tapestry needle (to loosen tight stitches)
DMC Cebelia size 20/1.5mm hook OR DMC Cebelia size 30/1.25mm hook (for stamens)

Optional materials:
Commercially manufactured wire stamens (used in cake decorating)
Dyeing supplies
Stiffener (for stamens, may not be needed)

You need the following skills:

  • chain
  • slip stitch
  • single crochet
  • half double crochet
  • double crochet
  • triple crochet
  • double triple crochet
  • magic ring
  • controlling tension
  • accuracy & attention to detail
  • comfortable working with thread

This is appropriate for an intermediate crocheter with the required skills listed above. The stamens and pistil are a bit more difficult than the petals, mostly because of the size. Pre-made stamens are a good alternative if desired.

Very minimal sewing is needed.

Using the recommended materials and tension you will not need stiffener or wires to shape the petals and may not need stiffener for the stamens unless they are extremely long. I have never used stiffener on them and there is no stiffener on the lilies shown in my photos.

The stitches needed for alternative petal widths are also included.

I usually dye these lilies. Included is a text-only supplement which includes a materials list, sources, precautions, and the process and technique which I use. There are not step-by-step photos and you may find that additional info will be helpful as you develop your own technique.
