Lily leaf sweater

The lilies in the vase were so pretty! 3 stems of white lilies - so beautiful and crisp. When I took a closer look my attention was drawn to the leaves: with their distinct lines and curved shape they gave me inspiration to work this new stitch pattern. I chose to let it climb up the front as well as the sleeves.
This is a very simple sweater where I let the Lily Leaf pattern play the main role. The stitch-pattern is so elegant and defined that I wanted to keep the cut of the sweater as simple as possible, a bit boxy and oversized and with clean lines. The neckline is a flattering, wide scoop-neck. I find that the sweater turned out to be just as comfortable, elegant and wearable as I wanted it.
The knitting was a pleasure as the stitch pattern is so pretty - and I couldn’t really leave the knitting as I HAD to see how it moved on:))
The sweater is completely seamless, and there is no need for a cable needle!
Sizes
Finished bust measurements are: 38” - 40” - 42” - 43.5” - 45” - 47” - 48.5” - 50.5”.
The sweater is supposed to have some positive ease, to make it comfortable and elegant. Allow between 2 - 5” of positive ease. The sample is made with 12.5cm/5” of ease.
Construction
The body is knit in the round and bottom up to armholes where work is divided and upper front and back are worked in separate pieces and back and forth. Shoulders are worked together from WS using the 3 needle bind-off method. Stitches are picked up along armhole openings and sleeves are knit in the round and top-down (perfect for customizing the length:)). Stitches are picked up along the neck-opening and the short ribbed edge is worked in the round. There is no shaping of the body. Under each sleeve there are some decrease rounds.
Materialsl
Yarn: I recommend that you choose a natural fiber (merino/cotton/alpaca/cashmere or similar) of fingering or sport weight and with great drape and stitch definition to work this sweater. Choose your wool according to gauge. I used “Baby Star” from Laines du Nord to work the sweater. This merino yarn of sport weight comes in balls of 50gr/1.76oz and 191m/175yards. You will need 7/8/9/9/10/11/12/12/13 balls of above yarn. Amount of yarn needed might vary from brand to brand and from knitter to knitter. Needle sizes: A long, circular 3mm/US2.5 needle (at least 80cm/32”) to work the lower body. Straight or circular 3mm/US2.5 needle(s) to work the upper body. Dpns or a small circular 3mm/US2.5 needle to work the sleeves. A small circular 2.5mm/US. Important: choose needle size to obtain gauge
Gauge 27 sts/36 rows = 10x10cm/4x4”
For best result check gauge before getting started!
The pattern
The pattern is easy to follow with clear instructions for the stitch-pattern which is charted as well as written.
All necessary stitch-counts are given. All measurements are in cm’s as well as inches.
I also give ideas for customizing the pattern (waist-shaping, added length of body/sleeves…)
Skills needed The stitch-pattern itself is much easier than it looks! The pattern is intuitive and is easy to memorize. No cable needle is needed.
Abbreviations used are ktbl, ptbl, m1l, m1r, ssk, k2tog, sl1k2togpsso, p2tog
Useful skills: knitting in the round, picking up sts, 3-needle bind-off method.
I Think the pattern is suitable for a knitter with some experience, a fairly new knitter that wants a challenge, an experienced knitter who enjoys some “mindless” knitting with a great result:))
