Lindal Pixie Hat (Child)
The design for the “Lindal Pixie Hat” was inspired by the work of Marin Melchior of MarinJa Knits. After knitting her Butterfly Cowl, I came up with the idea for this pattern. This pattern is written with her knowledge.
I feel that Marin’s Butterfly Cowl is a great introduction to short-row knitting. If you have never tried this technique before, I would encourage anyone interested in knitting this hat to first purchase her pattern available here: https://www.marinjaknits.com/shop/p/butterfly-cowl or on Ravelry at https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/butterfly-cowl-11. If you have knit in this style before, you will find this hat a joy to make and add to your own collection!
Size: The hat is written for one size measuring app. 8.5” high x 9.5” from tip of forehead to bottom center back as measured on the angle, however by adjusting the needle size it can be adjusted to fit any child from app. 4-14 years of age.
Yarn: This hat is shown in Lang Yarns Viva (~45g) with Merino+ (~20g), but could just as easily have been knit using only Viva and working from both ends of the ball for a more subtle color transformation. Urth Yarns also work beautifully in these short-row patterns, and due to their ply, hold up well to frequent usage.
Finishing: Tassel making instructions are intentionally NOT included in the pattern due to apparel safety guidelines. While shown with these elements, the instructions for this hat are for the main body of the hat ONLY. As regulatory environments differ from country to country, it is the responsibility of the individual making this product to understand labeling standards and safety guidelines for sale or use of the completed garment. The hat is designed to be made and wearable without embellishment. If you do decide to add tassels, you will need a small additional amount of yarn. There are numerous videos on DIY versions and Clover models also include great instruction.
