The Lindisfarne Poncho is constructed from two rectangular panels, knitted flat and sewn together with a center neck opening. A variety of cable patterns are worked across the width of each panel. Stitches are then picked up along the neckline and knitted flat with buttonhole(s) along the neckband edge. The stitch patterns are both charted and written.

This pattern includes three sizes: Child (up to a 30” chest), Adult Medium (32-44” chest), and Adult Large (46-58” chest).

The gauge is 18 stitches and 24 rows over 4” in stockinette stitch. Over the largest cable pattern, it is 28 stitches and 29 rows after blocking.

This pattern is recommended for intermediate knitters. You must be able to follow complex cable charts or written instructions, make cables, follow instructions for seaming the two panels together, and make button holes.

For the poncho featured here, I used Knit Picks Simply Wool Worsted (100% Eco Wool, 218 yards / 100g). You will need 3 (5, 8) balls of Winnie #27470.You may substitute any worsted/Aran weight yarn for this pattern, although I do recommend using a wool or wool blend, because you will need to block quite heavily, and the wool will help to maintain the blocked shape. You will also need 32” circular needles in size US 7 or size needed to obtain the gauge, and a cable needle or double pointed needle for the cable work.
