Liner Notes 1 is a simple knit in plain stockinette, but good details give it a sleek, well-developed minimalism, and make it an excellent canvas to show off a good hand-dyed yarn.

(It’s also reversible. I really have a bad habit of not highlighting reversibility when it’s actually very cool. Anyway. Reversible. It is. You know.)

It features a warm lining made from either a single contrast color, or a collection of your softest, most colorful, and most sentimental scraps. There are three sizes: small, medium, and large, which are intended to fit kids, average adults, and larger-headed adults. The sample shows the hat in size medium, and knit from craft store yarns—Premier Yarns Serenity Sock in Navy for the outer shell (MC), and Gray Flannel for the interior.

Three sizes fit a good range—kids, average adults, and larger-headed adults. Yardage estimates are given for size medium; for small, you’ll need a little less yarn, and for large, you’ll need a little more.

Materials:
For size Medium: MC, about 160 yards/147 meters; total CC, about 100 yards/92 meters. Both MC and CC together: about 260 yards/239 m.
1 16” circular needle in US3/3.25mm, or size needed for gauge
1 set of 5 DPNs in size needed for gauge
1 duplicate needle, or a needle a size smaller, for use working the hem. (You can also use a DPN for this.)
~2-3 yards of smooth scrap yarn
Crochet hook
4 removable stitch markers
Tapestry needle

Gauge:
Gauge is 24 sts and 38 rows over 4”/10cm of stockinette, worked in the round, after blocking—not too dense, not too loose. Please be sure to check your gauge.

The free version of the pattern contains a formatting error, now corrected. A tutorial photo was in the wrong position, and didn’t illustrate the part of the pattern it was supposed to illustrate. Other than that, the instructions are the same. Thanks for your patience!
