Scribble in the sand with this great slouchy hat done with twisted rib, eyelets and reverse stockinette. The color I used reminded me of the sand as I was working it up. The twisted rib is continued through the decrease section, adding extra interest to the highly visible crown.

  • Pattern includes chart and written directions for the pattern stitch. The pattern itself is written out.
  • I used about a skein and a half of the Birch for the sample.
  • The brim of the hat is knit small to account for the amount of stretching out the sample cotton yarn would do on a bigger head. Take that into consideration if you choose a yarn with more elasticity, such as wool. You might consider using needles one size apart rather than two.
  • Three pattern stitch repeats got me to about 7”, which works if you’d like a less slouchy hat. Pattern is written for four, which came to 9”.
