I love garter stitch but dislike the seemingly inevitable purl dash line that appears on the reverse side of the work when changing color. Here is my solution for HOW TO KNIT A COMPLETELY REVERSIBLE GARTER STITCH FABRIC WITHOUT ANY COLOR CHANGE RELATED PURL DASH LINES. It’s quite easy to do, no double knitting, etc. required. I think doing the color change this way really pays off in the result!

The scarf is light, soft, and airy but still very warm.

I named this pattern Lines of Hay because the color and stripes of the scarf reminded me of lines of raked hay on a field.

The pattern includes a photo tutorial of the color change technique.

Gauge

22 stitches and 40 rows = 10 cm in garter stitch, not stretched

The thicker stripes are knitted holding yarns A and B together, and the thinner stripes holding yarn C double. The gauge for A and B held together and for C held double should be the same; I recommend swatching.
