Quick project when winter arrives too early and you are not quite prepared.

I do love cowls! I think they are such a nice and quick project and you could use a special yarn without spending a fortune. I believe they are ideal gifts too and if they are quick to make, it’s an extra bonus. I knitted the first sample just to try a new yarn from my studio, a yarn called Purrino, a blend of merino and NZ brushtale possum.
Yes, I am one of those people who need to knit something useful rather than a simple square. The design evolved as knitting progressed and when the cowl was finished, I had too many people wanting to get the pattern for the yarn too. Luckily, I had my notes, and I could work from there, making some appropriate changes. The pattern has some slipped stitches that look like links, and they just remind me of the knitting community, we are all linked together through our love for this craft.

Sample used approx 1.5 balls of 40g Purrino, (140m/40g), other dk yarns should also work.

Cowl is knitted flat for the first part (the links section) and for the second part (neck), a small section is bound off, and then we joined to work in the round in the rib.

Gauge is not extremely important (sample is approx. 20 st / 28 rows = 10 cm/ 4 in after blocking)

My knitting style is very loose so if your style is very firm you can go up in needle sizes (4.5mm to 5mm)
When you are working the elongated stitch, please make sure you keep it untwisted, (as per sample) or if you prefer it twisted, just make sure you are consistent and twist it every time.

Note: to get the elongated stitch you can experiment and do the yo x3 as per pattern or x2 if your knitting style is quite loose

This is one size only but if you want to make it smaller (for a kid) or larger, you can - just change the number of stitches accordingly. If any issues how to change, please message me.

Have fun! and stay warm!
