Linum Beany
A low brimmed rather fetching hat with a flower border inspired by the lovely blue lowers of the flax plant (Linum usitatissimum). Flax is used to make Linen. It used to be grown widely in Norfolk for the British linen industry. Sadly our native linen production died in the early 1950’s with the last crops produced on the Royal Sandringham estate.
Using stranded colourwork technique the hat is worked in the round. It features a neat crown shaping.
A perfect project for the beginner and more experienced knitter looking for an easy project to start with stranded colourwork & shaping techniques.
Knitted in Fibreworkshops Norfolk Horn yarn. Shown here in natural & woad, our homegrown traditional indigo blue of Norfolk mawther Boudicca. In case you are wondering mawther is Norfolk dialect for girl or woman.
