Meet our Lion. He’s cute, cuddly and totally adorable. This pattern supplies directions for making our Lion.

This Lion is suitable for intermediate knitters and assumes an understanding of basic stitches, Loop Stitch and standard knitting terms. Our Lion is knit flat and sewn together using a mattress stitch.

If you’re new to knitting stuffed friends, or are uncomfortable winging it without strict guidelines (that’s OK, we all need good directions sometimes to help us out) you will need approximately 95 m of medium weight yellow yarn for the head, legs, ears and body and 60 m of medium weight dark brown for the mane. With this yarn, use 4 mm (US size 6) needles. You will also need stuffing (we use ecofil or wool) and a tapestry needle to sew your lion together. This will let you create a lion that’s approximately 21 cm (8 inches) long and 22 cm (8.5 inch) high.

The beauty of knitting stuffed friends is that this pattern can be knit in any size yarn with accompanying needles. Generally we find using a size or two smaller needles than required by the yarn allows for the tightness needed when you’re stuffing your finished product.
