We created the pattern for the #LionessesHat because we can’t wait to support the team at their upcoming international matches!

Skills required: To achieve the colourwork on this hat, knitting the fair-isle method in the round is essential (i.e. you must use circular needles for the colourwork section). Decreasing on double-pointed needles (DPN’s) is also necessary to achieve the crown shaping. For design A, swiss-darning is also required. This is an intermediate-advanced pattern and it is recommended you are familiar with these techniques in order to achieve a neat finished item :)

You will need:

  • 3.25mm needles - circular (recommended) or single pointed (for alternative method).
  • 4mm needles - circular (required) & DPN’s (required)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch markers or safety pins
  • Approximately 50g of dk weight main colour (MC) and 20g of each contrast colour (CC1, CC2) yarn. Matching pom-pom will require extra yarn (approx. 10g all colours).
  • A pom-pom maker (cardboard/home-made is fine!) or ready-made pom-poms.

Gauge: 24 sts and 28 rows to 4” (10cm) square, in colorwork pattern using 4mm needles.

Sizing: The pattern is supplied in two sizes: Adult S/M, and Adult M/L. To fit up to head size 22”/24” respectively.
