Líparít
Simple things are sometimes the best things. Let the yarn shine in this easy sweater, and make it one of your favorite wardrobe items! With the amount of positive ease shown, this can be dressed up for a smart look, or you could go for a more casual outfit.
Líparít is a drop shoulder sweater worked from the top down. First stitches are cast on for the shoulders and neckline, and the top front is worked using German short rows for neckline shaping. Stitches are then picked up and the upper back is worked, before joining the front & back stitches together to work the rest of the body in the round.
Stitches are picked up along the armhole edge and the sleeves are worked top down. Finally the neckline is worked.
Use provisional cast on to easily pick up your stitches at the shoulders and neckline, or use an ordinary long tail cast on and pick up stitches from that later.
I made this sweater in Einrúm yarn, an intriguing blend of the rough Icelandic wool we know from the Lopapeysur (Lopapeysa sweaters) combined with threads of the finest silk. The silk gives shine, strength and structure, giving that certain edge to simple stockinette stitch. Two strands held together on big needles make for a quick, pleasing knit!
If you’re not into Icelandic wool, try making this sweater in a DK weight yarn held together with a single strand of mohair lace. That combination will most certainly be divine! Or do it in a single strand of heavy DK or light worsted yarn – there is ample opportunity to play around with yarn combinations here.
Yarn used: einrúm E+2 (80% Icelandic Wool, 20% Silk), 208 meters / 227 yards per 50g, 7-8-8-9-10-11 skeins. Colorway: “1015 Líparít”.
Actual approximate meterage/yardage needed:
1310-1510-1680-1850-1990-2130 meters / 1440-1660-1850-2035-2190-2345 yards.
NOTE: Yarn is held double throughout, corresponding to approximately heavy DK / light worsted weight. If you substitute yarn, note that your needed yardage may differ. If you use a single strand of a heavier weight, you would need half the yardage mentioned. Play around with yarns and combinations, but pay attention to your gauge!
Needles: 6 mm / US 10 circulars, 80 cm / 32 inches.
5 mm / US 8 circulars in same length for ribbing.
Optional: DPNs in both sizes for sleeves and neckline.
Other: Waste yarn for provisional CO, stitch markers, tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
Gauge: Sample uses gauge of 12.25 sts & 18,5 rows to 10 cm / 4 inches in stockinette stitch on bigger needles, after blocking. Make sure to swatch and hit the approximate gauge if substituting yarns!
Size: XS-S-M-L-XL-2XL, to fit bust of 74-84-94-104-114-124 cm / 29-33-37-41-45-49 inches.
Garment is intended to be worn with around 30-40 cm / 12-16 inches of positive ease.
Actual garment measurement, bust: 106-122,5-132-142-152-158,5 cm / 41.75-48.25-52-56-59.75-62.5 inches.
