Lissanover Cowl is inspired by the geometric surface decoration on gold lunulae in the collection of the National Museum of Ireland. The cowl came to life as a solution to keeping my shoulders & neck warm while working from home, and keeping scarf ends out of the way of multiple cups of tea!

This cowl is knit back & forth using a combination of mosaic knitting and slipped stitch patterns in garter stitch, so only one colour is worked per row. It is shaped to fit over the shoulders using a series of increases, and is finished with applied button bands. The cowl can be worn buttoned as a hood or gathered around the neck, or can be partially unbuttoned to be worn as a shawl or capelet, to sit lower over the shoulders.

The pattern includes both written and charted instructions.

One size: Top circumference: 61 cm / 24” Bottom circumference: 110cm / 43.5” Length: 38 cm / 15”

Gauge: Gauge: 20 sts & 24 rows per 10 cm / 4” in stocking stitch

Needle: 4 mm or size needed to achieve gauge. I used a circular needle for its extra length.

Yarn: Toft DK Wool in Charcoal (MC) 330 m / 360 yards & Toft Ulysses DK in Light grey (CC) 180m / 197 yards
