This simple-to-make string bag will appeal to all eco-warriors who want a sensible – and stylish – alternative to the plastic carrier bag. Great for carrying all your shopping, the bag can also be used for carrying your towel to and from the swimming pool and for storage (toys, clothes, balls of yarn etc).
The example pictured was made using a hand-dyed yarn. Start with a pure cotton DK weight yarn. I used Rowan Handknit Cotton and Dylon Cold Water Dyes. Wind it into a loose skein and dip sections in different coloured dyes, allowing colours to overlap and blend in places for a unique, one-off yarn.
