The pattern for this little Christmas Wreath - quick and easy to make -is available as free download on my blog.
I made my sample with a Cotton sport weight (#2) yarn. The finished wreath is about 6 cm (about 2 1/2 inch).
Any other yarn with a matching hook size should work as well, but might affect the finished size. Gauge is not crucial. You will need only a small amount of yarn, so the pattern is perfect for some left-overs.

The pattern is written in US terms and worked in rounds. I consider it to be beginner friendly. You should be able to do chains, slip stitches, half double crochet, double crochet and front post single crochet.

The Christmas Wreath can be decorated however you like.
