An Ode To Holland

This festive little dress is filled with tulips, windmills, canal houses, wooden shoes, bridges, bikes, stepped gable houses, wooden shoes, Friesian farm houses, and more. It features an empire waist and a slightly bell-shaped skirt. Because of the nature of the motif, each of the five sizes has its own custom chart, all included with the pattern purchase. Sample photos show a size four dress.

The dress is knit bottom up, starting with larger needles and then knit with smaller needles to give the dress it’s subtle bell shape. There is a dramatic decrease at the top of the skirt and then the bodice is worked back and forth. To shape the armholes, the work is split and the front and the back are worked flat separately. The top of the shoulders are joined with a 3-needle bind off. The armholes, neckline, and buttonhole are all finished with a single crochet chain.
