Little Fires 2: Bigger Fires
The faster, bulkier version of my Little Fires, Little Fires 2: Bigger Fires features the same stitch pattern with a new crown that is perfect for a giant pompom.
Choose a solid, semi-solid, or tonal for the body of the hat. The flames are perfect for using up leftover yarn. Pick a solid or variegated that contrasts well with your main color for maximum effect.
Sizes
infant/small child: 17” (42.5 cm), to fit 18.5” (46.5 cm)
large child/small adult: 19” (47.5 cm), to fit 21” (52.5 cm)
large adult: 21” (52.5 cm), to fit 23” (57.5 cm)
Yarn
Heavy Aran or light bulky weight yarn, 100% wool or wool blend
Samples knit in Malabrigo Mecha, Green Gray and Jupiter
A note on yarn: the Mecha in the samples was knit at a tighter-than-usual gauge for a bulky yarn to ensure warmth. If substituting, you may wish to choose a heavy aran weight yarn, as it may not be possible to achieve the pattern gauge with a heavier bulky.
Two skeins of Mecha should be sufficient to make a pair of fraternal hats at the given gauge. There might not be enough yarn to make pompoms if two large hats are made or if the hats are lengthened.
