Little Flock and Flowers
This is a PDF pattern for a stranded fair isle pullover sweater and matching hat to fit an 18 inch doll similar to American Girl dolls. The sweater has a placket opening with buttonholes which can be worn at the front or the back. The body, sleeves and hat are knitted bottom up and in the round using stranded fair isle technique. Body and sleeves are knit separately to underarm then joined for the yoke. A placket opening is created at the back, beginning at the start of the yoke. The cuffs, hat band and hem of the sweater are knit in 2-color corrugated rib. The pattern PDF is 23 pages and includes written instructions with charts for the fair isle design. This pattern is designed by me and was tested by 6 other knitters. This purchase is for a PDF KNITTING PATTERN, not the doll or clothing pictured.
SKILL: Experienced. This pattern includes basic knitting techniques as well as the following additional techniques:
- Fair isle/stranded knitting in the round on circular needles or double pointed needles. I used the magic loop technique.
- Contrasting edge long tail cast on.
- Following a color and knitting symbols chart.
- Making buttonholes with yarn over and knit 2 together.
- Three needle bind off for hat.
- Grafting underarm seams using Kitchener stitch or preferred method of joining live stitches.
MATERIALS:
- Needles: #3 US 3.25 mm either double point or circular. If you are using magic loop, you will need at least a 40”/100 cm cable. you may also need a smaller or larger size needle if your gauge in fair isle differs from your gauge with one color stockinette
- Yarn: light worsted total amount approximately 220 yards and depends on the yarn you use. I used the following yarn for the hat and sweater in the photo, but you may need more or less: Loops and Threads Joy DK -220 yards/202 metres.
- Additional materials: yarn needle for grafting underarms and weaving ends, stitch holders or scrap yarn, stitch markers, 2 buttons for placket.
You are welcome to sell the completed knitted items from this pattern, but please credit me with the design and if possible provide a link to my Ravelry store for the pattern. Please do not copy, sell or re-distribute this pattern.
