Do you have a special skein of yarn that you want to shine? Are you gift knitting for that special person? Do you want a small project for travel? Are you a new knitter looking for a small project with a little interest? Are you an experienced knitter looking for a comforting project?

The Little Garter Scarf is intended for knitters who need a special project that highlights their yarn. Although the Little Garter Scarf is mostly garter knitting, there are sweet little details to keep you interested as you go.

The Little Garter Scarf is a small scarf that you can
wear close to your neck to feel cozy or style like an
ascot. It is knit tip to tip, with increases and then
decreases, and makes use of slip stitches. The garter
and the slip stitches allow your yarn to shine. Since
this is knit with only 50 g of DK yarn, you can use leftovers or experiment with holding different yarns together. Use a special yarn from your collection, get creative, and have fun with your Little Garter Scarf! #littlegarterscarf

Preparation

Yarn required: Approximately 50g of DK yarn; 145–170 yards

Yarn pictured: Explorer Knits and Fibers Rockies DK in colorway “Sagrada Familia”

Needles: US size 6 (4.00 mm); any size needle that provides a nice drape for a scarf

Gauge: 22 sts x 28 rows (14 garter ridges) for 4” x 4”
Size: One size

Accessories: Progress keeper for marking right side; Two stitch markers to mark the center stitch that will be slipped
Construction: End to end, with increases and decreases, and slip stitches

Dimensions: Finished scarf is about 4.5” or 11 cm wide and 52.5” or 132.5 cm long

Advice: If the goal is to get two of these scarves out of one 100 g skein of yarn, make sure to weigh yarn and attend to gauge. You can easily adjust the length of the scarf by knitting more rows in the straight section. You can also adjust the width the of the scarf by adding more increase sections.
